Materials#

Everything you download or reference in this course lives on this page: the references, the hardware and software, the legacy slides, and the supporting documents. Each lesson page links its own materials in place; this is the one place they are all together.

Primary references#

This is a hands-on course, so the “textbooks” are two free web references we work through alongside the in-class flowgraphs.

  • GNU Radio Tutorials: the official GNU Radio wiki tutorials. The primary reference for GRC, flowgraph construction, and out-of-tree module development.

  • PySDR: A Guide to SDR and DSP using Python (Marc Lichtman): a free online textbook covering SDR fundamentals, DSP basics, and hands-on examples with PlutoSDR, RTL-SDR, and USRP.

Hardware & software#

  • GNU Radio with GNU Radio Companion (GRC): install instructions are posted with L5.

  • PlutoSDR / ADALM-PLUTO: full-duplex Tx/Rx SDR, issued to every cadet, set to extended-frequency mode (70 MHz–6 GHz).

  • Antennas: the antennas that come with the PlutoSDR, or your own, for the midterm fox hunt.

Lab packets#

Each lab packet is posted on its lab page, and here, before the lab.

Legacy slides#

The slides each topic was last taught from, posted as they were while the lessons are converted to the new format. As each lesson is converted, its new notes and slides replace these on the lesson page.
